Who can participate?
Animal Adventures is a half-day summer camp program designed for children ages 3 to 6.   This summer, we will also have a group of young school-age children, 5 to 7 years old.

What is the schedule?
The program is a half-day program, from 8 am to 12 pm.  However, an extended day program is also available.  The program will be from June 14th to August 20th.

What is the cost of the program?
FREE with a VPK Certificate
$50 per week (Tuesday/Thursday)
$65 per week (Monday/Wednesday/Friday)
$85 per week (Monday through Friday)
$127 per week (Mon. through Fri., full-day)
Plus a $75 activity fee for the summer camp to cover the cost of the on-site presentations and educational field trips.

What field trips and presentations are planned?
The summer camp program will include on-site presentations by the Florida Aquarium and Lowry Park Zoo, featuring live animals and amazing demonstrations.  We will enjoy field trips to Dinosaur World, the Aquarium and MOSI.  Several speakers will also visit and share their knowledge of local animals.

Will you need parent volunteers?
First Discoveries always encourages parents to be actively involved at school.  This summer, parents can chaperone field trips, be a guest reader, help with special projects in classrooms, or prepare materials at home.

Is this a VPK Camp?
Our school participates in the state-funded VPK program. Eligible four and five year olds can use their VPK certificate to register for this summer VPK camp.  Because the camp is designed and taught by certified teachers, we incorporate all the VPK standards into our summer curriculum.  Children will focus on early literacy skills, while exploring math and science throughout this camp.

What is VPK?
VPK is Voluntary PreK.  All children in the state of Florida are eligible to attend a FREE VPK program either during the school year or during the summer before they begin kindergarten.  To attend this summer VPK camp, children must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2010.  Children can apply for a VPK certificate if they:
* Have not participated in a VPK program
* Started a VPK program during the school year, but didn't complete it.
   (restrictions apply)
* Were in a private PreK (that was not funded by VPK)
* Attended Head Start or EELP program (that was not funded by VPK)
